Maiden Hurdle Winner Completes Double For Vadamos
Alcedo (5g Vadamos – Deliziosa, by Iffraaj) produced a smart performance in Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Exeter to complete a double on the card for Grange Stud sire Vadamos.
A debut winner of a bumper last season, Venetia Williams’ charge was sent off favourite for Thursday’s two mile contest and raced prominently throughout under Charlie Deutsch. Asserting before the last, he kept on well to score by three lengths, with the same margin back to the third.
The promising son of Vadamos is owned by P Davies and was bred by Padraig O’Reilly.
Earlier that afternoon, The Harry Fry-trained Valadon (3g Vadamos – Art Festival, by New Approach) justified favouritism in the three-year-old hurdle under Jonathan Burke.
The bay made a promising debut in a similar contest last month, when finishing second to a previous winner. He showed the benefit of experience when making all the running on Thursday and began to quicken from three out. Challenged at the final flight, he kept on well on the run-in to win by half a length, with the front pair finishing 12 lengths clear of the third.
Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, Valadon is owned by Bond, Thornton and Manhole Covers Ltd.
