Vadamos Mare Draws Clear In Bumper
Ufouria (7m Vadamos – The Real Thing, by Traditionally) proved a class above her rivals in the mares’ bumper at Cork on Friday.
The Paul Nolan-trained bay chased home a smart type on debut, the winner subsequently winning a listed race and recently landing a Grade 2. A promising fourth on her seasonal return last month, Ufouria was partnered by Conor Smithers in Friday’s two-mile contest and raced in midfield for much of the way. She improved to race prominently before the two-furlong pole, when several looked in contention, but Nolan’s charge drew clear a furlong later, staying on to score by six lengths.
“We always thought a lot of her,” Smithers commented. “She is a nice mare and she finished second behind a very decent mare on her first run in Limerick, when I rode her. She had a setback which was niggly and wasn't anything major but was off for a while.
“Her run back, in Limerick, was good and she got tired in the final furlong-and-a-half so we always knew she'd improve from it. What you saw today was what we thought of her and we think she will be a nice mare in the future.”
