Newcomer Completes Aintree Double For Walk In The Park
Sunset Marquesa (4f Walk In The Park - Be My Sunset, by Bob Back) made a perfect start to her career when leading home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore NH sires in the mares’ bumper at Aintree on Sunday.
Joe Tizzard’s newcomer faced four previous winners in the two mile and one furlong contest and raced in midfield for much of the way under Harry Cobden. Making headway from two furlongs out, she was ridden to lead a furlong later and kept on well to beat previous winner Sweet Honey B (Getaway) by a neck. Point-to-point winner Lady In The Park (Walk In The Park) finished half a length further back in third.
Owned by the Wychwood Partnership and bred by I McGrath, Sunset Marquesa was completing a quickfire double for her sire, following an impressive chase debut by Master Chewy (6g Walk In The Park - Shake The Tree, by Shantou) in the previous race.
The son of Walk In The Park sold for £300,000 following his debut third for Pat Doyle and subsequently showed promise for Nigel Twiston-Davies over hurdles last season. Well-supported to make a winning start over fences, he produced a superb round of jumping and eased into the lead from four out. Shaken up to assert at the second last, he kept on well on the run-in to win by 12 lengths under Sam Twiston-Davies.
Owned by Anne-Marie and Jamie Shepperd, Master Chewy was bred by James Hoare.
