Patter Merchant (Walk In The Park) Wins The 4YO Maiden At Dromahane

Noteworthy Pair Complete Double For Walk In The Park

Walk In The Park was responsible for two smart winners in the space of an hour on Sunday, beginning with a debut win by Patter Merchant (4g Walk In The Park - Bowenscourt, by Westerner) in the four-year-old maiden at Dromahane.

The Gordon Elliott-trained newcomer was sent off favourite under Harry Swan, who rode the bay to chase the leaders and improved to lead after the second last. He kept on well on the run-in to deny Trasna Na Pairce (Walk In The Park) by a length and a half.

The €75,000 store sale buy was bred by Brittas House Stud and Grenane House. He is a full-brother to dual bumper winner and Grade 2 fourth Bowenspark (Walk In The Park), who bolted up on hurdle debut earlier this month.

Meanwhile, over at Naas, exciting point-to-point recruit Mahon’s Way (5g Walk In The Park - Allys Bubble, by Luso) made a smart start over hurdles for Henry de Bromhead.

The bay’s debut in a four-year-old maiden for Denis Hogan was so impressive that he fetched £360,000 in November, with Alex Elliott signing the docket on behalf of Cheveley Park Stud. Third in a bumper on rules debut in March, he stepped up to two miles and three furlongs in Sunday’s maiden hurdle. Racing prominently under Rachael Blackmore, he led from four out and was ridden when challenged at the second last. Clear after the final flight, he kept on to win by five and a half lengths comfortably.

“He’s a lovely horse,” de Bromhead said after the race. “He came highly recommended and does everything well. It’s tough work out there and you would think he will get further.”

Mahon’s Way was bred by John Cahill.
