Smart Bumper Winner By Vadamos
Big Dee (4g Vadamos - Yashila, by Indian Haven) produced a smart performance to beat the short-priced favourite in Saturday’s bumper at Down Royal.
Eoin McCarthy’s charge shaped with great promise on debut when finishing second to a Willie Mullins-trained favourite at Listowel, and faced some well-regarded types again on his second start. Racing prominently under John Barry, he was travelling best when challenging three furlongs from home and led a furlong later. He was pushed out to win by four lengths from €120,000 buy Cleatus Poolaw, who finished eight lengths clear of the third.
“Big Dee is one we like an awful lot,” McCarthy said after the race. “He got outsprinted at Listowel when he was green and babyish. He settled better today. Horses like these are great for a yard like mine and I think we'll stay in bumpers for now.”
Big Dee was bred by Tally Ho Stud, who stood his sire Vadamos before his switch to Grange Stud.
