Son Of Vadamos Impresses On Rules Debut

Point-to-point recruit Matata (4g Vadamos - Wattrey, by Royal Academy) ran out an impressive winner of Friday’s Novice Hurdle at Fakenham.

The son of Vadamos won a four-year-old maiden on his sole start for David Murphy before being purchased privately by Simon Munir and Isaac Souede. The bay was sent off favourite on his first start for Nigel Twiston-Davies, despite an absence of 250 days, and was ridden to make all by Daryl Jacob. Pushed along approaching the final furlong, he kept on well to win by seven and a half lengths, as sons of Maxios finished second and third.

Bred by Donal Commins, Matata hails from the first crop of Vadamos, as does black-type hurdle Calvados (Vadamos).

At the Curragh the previous day, Boher Road (3g Vadamos - Shahzeena, by Rock Of Gibraltar) captured the mile maiden for Jarlath Fahey and owner/breeder Patrick McCarthy.

A close second last month, the bay was sent off second favourite under Ronan Whelan and raced prominently throughout. Pushed along to lead after the two furlong pole, he was ridden from over a furlong out and kept on well to win by three parts of a length.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Boher Road is a nice horse and has improved with every run. Ronan says he'll go further so hopefully when he learns his job he'll do that.”
