Son Of Walk In The Park Justifies Favouritism On Hurdle Bow
Helnwein (5g Walk In The Park - Synthe Davis, by Saint Des Saints) justified strong market support to make a winning hurdle debut at Warwick on Wednesday.
The Alan King-trained bay won a bumper last season and remained over two miles on his seasonal return in the Novices’ Hurdle. Sent off favourite under Tom Cannon, he was produced to lead before the second last and was ridden out on the run-in to win by a length and three quarters.
“I'm delighted,” said the winning trainer. “Helnwein will come on a bundle as well, mine are needing a run and there's a lot of improvement to come. He's a lovely horse and has done everything so easily at home, he never comes off the bridle.”
Owned by the Noel Fehily Racing Syndicate, Helnwein was sourced following his debut third in a four-year-old maiden for Colin Bowe. He was bred by KD Cotter and is a full-brother to four-time winner Uncle Phil (Walk In The Park). A Crystal Ocean half-brother to the pair is catalogued in the upcoming Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale.
