Top Class Facile Vega Returns With Winning Chase Debut
Top-class hurdler Facile Vega (6g Walk In The Park - Quevega, by Robin Des Champs) made a successful switch to fences on Saturday, when justifying favouritism in the Beginners Chase at Navan.
Chasing the leader for much of the way, Willie Mullins’ charge produced a challenge at the third last and led at the next. Pushed out on the run-in, he won by three lengths and three quarters from Grade 1 scorer Inthepocket.
Speaking after the race, winning rider Paul Townend said, “The first day went well anyway. His class kicked in down the straight. He's matured physically and mentally.”
Saturday marked an eighth career win from ten starts for Facile Vega, with four of those wins having come at Grade 1 level. Owned and bred by the Hammer & Trowel Syndicate, the son of Walk In The Park is a full-brother to unbeaten bumper mare and Listed winner Aurora Vega (Walk In The Park).
