Walk In The Park Mare Rallies For Debut Victory
Get Me To The Park (5m Walk In The Park - Get Me Home, by Alderbrook) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in the mares’ bumper at Downpatrick in Friday evening.
The Willie Mullins-trained mare was sent off favourite under Jody Townend, who positioned the bay in mid-division and made headway to chase the leaders four furlongs from home. Asserting with ease after the two furlong marker, she was ridden approaching the final furlong and dug deep to deny her more experienced rival by a head.
Speaking after the race, Townend said, “She was probably better than it looked as I don't think she actually handled the track, she was a bit all over the place. She had the pedigree and she was working well at home, so we were quietly confident.”
Owned and bred by Malcolm Denmark, the daughter of Walk In The Park is out of a half-sister to Grade 1 performers Get Me Out Of Here and Rock On The Moor (Flemensfirth).
