$750,000 Colt for Tiz The Law at OBS March

It was a $750,000 colt to kick off four-time Grade I winner Tiz the Law’s inaugural juvenile sales season when Joey Platts went to that price to purchase the speedy colt at the OBS March 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale.

Registering the bullet :9.3 at last week’s Under Tack show, the colt was the third most expensive of the second session. He proved to be a successful pinhook for Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, who had purchased the colt out of Our Majesty for $375,000 at last year’s Keeneland September Yearling Sale.

That came nine months after he had sold for $140,000 at the Keeneland January Sale as a short yearling.

“He's quick and he kept going, some people had him in :19 and change galloping out,” Randy Hartley told Thoroughbred Daily News after the colt’s breeze. “He's a May baby. I don't push mine hard, he's even still a little chunky. I try to get my horses here sound and I feel like if I train them good, they'll give me everything they've got. Once they show me that they can take off and go, from there it's about fitness. We're super proud of him. He's only 22 months old, but he looks like a 3-year-old.”

The colt’s dam is the Grade III-placed Our Majesty. She is one of four stakes performers out of three-time winner Undervalued, whose other runners include the multiple stakes winner Overvalued and stakes winner I Spy Wolfie.

There is plenty of blacktype in the family with each of his first seven dams either earning blacktype or producing stakes winners.

Our Majesty produced a filly by Uncle Mo on February 24 with both that filly and this juvenile colt bred by Sun Bloodstock.

Tiz The Law’s six sold averaged $220,833, the second highest average of all freshmen with more than two sold, with a $122,500 median.
