Eunomia Rolls to Keeneland MSW Victory
Tiz The Law’s reign over the freshman standings continued on Thursday when Eunomia (2f Tiz The Law x Speedy Vanessa, by American Pharoah) won a Keeneland Maiden Special Weight.
The filly wasn’t going to let the leader have it easy in the 1 1/16-mile dirt race, keeping the pressure on just outside the runner. That rival grudgingly gave up command as the field entered the final quarter but refused to let Eunomia get a clear lead.
That came as they turned into the stretch with Eunomia pulling away and only a late closer able to get within 7 ½ lengths of her at the line – two lengths adrift the winner.
The Breed First-bred Eunomia is trained by Victoria Olver for Jewel Box racing and has finished in the top three in two of her three starts.
The filly is the first foal out of American Pharoah’s winning daughter Speedy Vanessa. That mare is a half-sister to Grade I winner Karlovy Vary, who produced Scat Daddy’s multiple Grade II winner Mean Mary and Uncle Mo’s Grade III winner Bye Bye Melvin.
The sire of 16 worldwide winners and leading all freshman sires by earnings, Tiz The Law’s first crop includes five stakes performers and a generation-leading four stakes winners – led by Grade II winners and Breeders’ Cup hopefuls Scythian and Non Compliant.
