Impressive Tiz The Law Juveniles Set for OBS March
After putting on a show at the OBS March 2-Year-Old In Training Sale Under Tack Show, the nine juveniles on offer by Tiz The Law go through the ring in coming days during the three sale sessions.
The first Tiz The Law to go through the ring at the sale is Hip 149, a filly consigned by Gold Rock Thoroughbreds.
Out of Bernardini mare Cryptobullet, the New Horizon Bloodstock-bred is a half-sister to a dual-placed runner from one to race out of her dam. Cryptobullet is out of the Grade II winner Spice Island, who is also the dam of Grade I winner Ice Box. Spice Island is also the granddam of stakes winner Tiz Ardel.
The page also includes U.S. Horse of the Year Spend a Buck with stakes winners produced by three of the four dams on the page.
A grandson of Grade I winner Star Billing sells as Hip 471 from the GOP Racing Stable consignment.
The January-born colt is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare Moonlit Cove, who is the dam of one winner from one to race. The Michael Waresk-bred also hails from the family of Justify’s champion Just FYI and Grade I winners Stellar Jayne and Starrer.
In all, there are eight stakes winners and seven other stakes performers on the page with each of Moonlit Cove’s first six dams either producing stakes winners or winning stakes.
Bred similarly to Grade I Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit is Global Thoroughbreds-offered Hip 510 out of Malibu Moon mare Noon Moon.
Bred by La Nora in Kentucky, the filly is a half-sister to two-time winner Ash n’ Em from her dam’s three to race. Noon Moon is a half-sister to Grade I winner Appealing Zophie, who produced Grade I winner Tapwrit, multiple graded stakes winner Ride a Comet, and stakes winner Inject. Appealing Zophie’s daughters also produced multiple stakes winner Kenai Bob and the stakes placed Bohemian Frost.
This filly’s extended family also includes Grade I winner Croeso, Super May, and Celestine.
Breezing in :9.4, the de Meric Sales-consigned Hip 514 is a granddaughter of dual Grade I winner Habibti.
“I’m very happy with the ones I have, they look precocious and early, but also look like they will train on,” said Nick de Meric.
Bred by Crosshaven Bloodstock, she is out of that one’s Smart Strike daughter Nuhood with Nuhood’s daughter Daimooma winning three races in her career. Habibti produced seven winners herself with those winners including multiple graded stakes winner Eldaafer, stakes winner Muhaawara, and the stakes placed Tazkeya. Muhaawara is also the dam of two stakes performers and two other stakes performers.
Runners by Tiz The Law’s sire Constitution and out of Smart Strike mares, bred similarly to this filly have been successful with the group including multiple graded stakes placed Hidden Stash and Grade III-placed Ambivalent from eight runners.
The talk of the sale was Hip 529, a Tiz The Law colt out of Grade III-placed Our Majesty and he didn’t disappoint, registering a bullet :9.3 at the sale.
Consignor Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds paid $375,000 in September to purchase him from Woods Edge Farm after he brought $140,000 as a short yearling last January. His dam Our Majesty is one of four stakes performers out of three-time winner Undervalued with the mare also producing multiple stakes winner Overvalued, stakes winner I Spye Wolfie among those four.
“I’m a huge fan of Tiz the Law. The colt I have is a May foal with a beautiful physical. He’s showed super early speed and we couldn’t be happier with him. I have 12 horses for OBS March and this colt could be the fastest of them all,” Dean DeRenzo said before the sale.
Stakes success runs through this family with each of the colt’s first seven dams either earning blacktype or producing stakes winners.
The final Tiz The Law offering is the Speedy Vanessa-produced Hip 694, who is offered by Niall Brennan Stables as part of the Lothenbach Stables dispersal.
By American Pharoah, Speedy Vanessa was a juvenile winner herself and sold for $200,000 carrying this colt at the 2021 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Out of The Right Pew, Speedy Vanessa is a half-sister to Grade I winner Karlovy Vary and Grade II-placed Rocket Legs.
Karlovy Vary produced multiple Grade II winner Mean Mary and Grade I-placed Mean Mary and that one’s Grade III winning half-brother Bye Bye Melvin, who is by Uncle Mo.
Five of Speedy Vanessa’s first six dams have produced stakes performers with four producing stakes winners.
The sale kicks off on March 12 with each of the three sessions kicking off at 11:00am ET.
