Key of Life A New G2 Winner for Mo Town

Mo Town’s Key Of Life (3f Mo Town x Longride to Wisdom, by Harlan’s Holiday) won her second straight stakes on Sunday with a win in the Grade II Beaumont Stakes at Keeneland.

The seven-furlong dirt race saw Key Of Life jump out of the gate first and immediately take the lead with another horse pressuring her down the backstretch. Key Of Life pulled away from the field by a length entering the turn and while another horse tried to push her shortly after, she started pulling away again down the stretch.

Key Of Life had a sizable lead down the stretch but had to dig deep in the final furlong to hold off the stakes placed Interpolate by a neck with the rest of the field over six lengths back.

Purchased for $365,000 at last year’s OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds by Flurry Racing Stable, Key Of Life is co-owned with Hoffman Family Racing and trained by Brad Cox. Taking her earnings to $600,000 with the victory, Key Of Life has now won five of eight races with three stakes victories and two other stakes placings.

“She jumped pretty well and she has a ton of speed, so I was able to get myself on the lead and from there she got the job done,” said jockey Flavien Prat. “Brad did a great job getting her ready. She really dug in (when Interpolate came to her outside in the stretch). But as soon as the other horse got close, she really dug in and gave me another gear to get us to the wire.”

Key of Life is one of four winners from four to race out of Longride to Wisdom. A two-time winner herself, Longride to Wisdom is out of multiple stakes winner Clever Idea – who also produced six-time winner Antimo.

This is also the extended family of Grade I winners Jeranimo and First Samurai and Grade II winner Kantharos.

Key Of Life is the second graded stakes winner for Mo Town during this year’s Keeneland meet with Mo Stash winning the Grade III Transylvania after finishing fourth in the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on the track last year.
