Mo Town’s Mystic Lake Wins Again in Sugar Swirl
Mo Town’s Grade II winning daughter Mystic Lake (3f Mo Town x Salty Soul, by Itsmyluckyday) visited the winner’s circle again on Saturday with a win in the Sugar Swirl Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
Making her first start since finishing fourth in the Grade I Cotillion Stakes in September, Mystic Lake immediately went to the front as the race favorite before being joined. Launch flew ahead of the eventual winner and Mystic Lake let her take command while galloping relaxed under Irad Ortiz Jr.
Ortiz barely had to move around the turn for Mystic Lake to catch the leader and only had to tap her a few times in the stretch for an easy three-quarter length victory.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. for C2 Racing Stable and Stefania Farms, Mystic Lake has won six of 13 starts with four other top three finishes for $901,354 in earnings. Among her wins are five stakes victories, led by the Grade II Charles Town Oaks.
Mystic Lake is the only runner out of Salty Soul, who is one of four winners from four to race out of the stakes placed, 23-time winner Pyramyst. Four of Mystic Lake’s first five dams all produced stakes performers with the only one not to produce one placing in a stakes herself.
Mo Town is the sire of 13 stakes winners and 30 stakes performers worldwide from his first three crops with six winning at the graded stakes level.
