Lexington Humor Impressive Debut Winner for Practical Joke
It was a perfect start for Lexington Humor (3f Practical Joke x Lexington Pearl, by Elusive Quality) on Saturday when the Practical Joke filly won at Golden Gate by 7 ¼ lengths.
Trained by Jonathan Wong, Lexington Humor sat just behind the leader until the turn of the 5 ½ furlong synthetic race. At that point, Brayan Pena asked her for a little bit more and by the time they hit the stretch she was in full stride.
Pena didn’t have to do much more to keep the win with Lexington Humor extending her lead with every stride. In the end only one horse was within nine lengths of the winner, who had registered two bullets in her final two works before her debut.
Lexington Humor is owned by Jason Hall, Herschel Martindale, and Joshua Vance. She was bred in Kentucky by Jose Luis Espinoza out of the nine-time winner Lexington Pearl.
That mare is a half-sister to stakes winners Whirlin Curlin and Lexington Street. Lexington Humor’s third dam is multiple graded stakes winner Nannerl, who also produced three stakes performers.
Lexington Humor is the 22nd Northern Hemisphere-born winner for Practical Joke in 2022, the second most winners of any second crop sire alongside Classic Empire. The only stallion with more is Practical Joke’s studmate Cupid at 27.
