Mo Town Filly Leads Coolmore Exacta in G3 Whimsical
It was a Coolmore-sired exacta on Saturday at Woodbine when Play The Music (4f Mo Town x Hey Little Sister, by Jump Start) romped home by 4 ¼ lengths over Peacock Lass (4f American Pharoah x Via Villaggion, by Bernardini) in the Grade III Whimsical Stakes.
A six-furlong race on the synthetic surface saw Play The Music break evenly with the field before settling on the rail as the middle marker. Slowly angling her way to the outside from her inner rail spot on the far turn, Play The Music found a hole at the top of the stretch and shot through it.
Once she was through the hole, the race was all but determined with an easy building of her margin to 4 ¼ lengths in front of a tightly packed group behind her.
Trained by Mark Casse for Glassman Racing, it was the second stakes victory of the year for Mo Town’s daughter. That filly won her first stakes in the Lightning City Stakes in February. In all, she has five wins and four other top three finishes in 12 starts for $341,598 in earnings.
A $110,000 yearling turned $300,000 2-year-old purchase, Play The Music was bred in Kentucky by Laura McKinney. She is one of seven winners out of the Jump Start are Hey Little Sister, who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Smoke It Right.
Hey Little Sister’s dam is also a half-sister to Grade III winner Road Rush and stakes winner Falkenburg.
Mo Town is the sire of three stakes winners in 2024, putting him fourth among all third crop sires. His five stakes performers is also seventh best in his crop.
