Mo Town’s Mystic Lake Wins Second Stakes
Mystic Lake (3f Mo Town x Salty Soul, by Itsmyluckyday) won her second stakes race of the year on Sunday with a victory in the Sophomore Fillies Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.
The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee shot to the lead soon out of the gate in the seven furlong race and never let go of control as the race favorite. Setting a comfortable pace, she was happy to listen to jockey Edgard Zayas and accelerated when asked.
In the stretch, Mystic Lake pulled away to win by 3 ½ lengths with the third placed runner nearly nine lengths behind.
This is the second victory of the year for the filly and third career victory overall with the $130,000 2-year-old purchase taking her earnings to $183,266. Bred by Peggy Costanzo in Florida, she is owned by C2 Racing Stable and Stefania Farms.
Mystic Lake is the first foal out of Itsmyluckyday daughter Salty Soul. The daughter of 23-time winner and stakes placed Pyramyst, she is a half-sister to four winners from four to race with each of her siblings winning at least one race. Pyramyst is one of three stakes performers out of her own dam with that mare’s runners led by stakes winner Storm Tale, who won 10 races in his own career.
A son of sire-of-sires Uncle Mo, who sired his own stakes winner on the card, Mo Town is the sire of two stakes winners this year – putting him fourth among all third-crop sires alongside Justify and Mendelssohn.
