Sed Maarib Bolts Home for Pharoah

American Pharoah looks to have a talented juvenile on his hands in England after Sed Maarib (2c American Pharoah x Sea Of Snow, by Distorted Humor) left his rivals behind at Beverley.

Stretching to 7 ½ furlongs for the first time, the 2-year-old broke well and was placed just behind the leaders by David Egan. Egan kept his mount relaxed in that position until they entered the final 2 ½ furlongs when he set Sed Maarib down.

It didn’t take long for Sed Maarib to find himself in front and he kept pulling away from there to win by 4 ¾ lengths over Australia’s Bababobo with Churchill’s Young Winston in third.

Racing for KHK Racing and trained by Roger Varian, Sed Maarib sold for $225,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Sent across the Atlantic, the colt then resurfaced as a yearling at the Arqana Deauville Select Yearling Sale when sold to Oliver St Lawrence for €320,000.

Bred by Frankfort Park Farm, Brendan Gallagher Bloodstock, et al., Sed Maarib is the first foal out of stakes-placed Sea Of Snow. Sea of Snow is a half-sister to Group 3 winner Powder Snow and Group 2-placed Snow. Their dam is a half-sister to champions Lammtarra and Kammtarra and to the dam of Group I winner Aesop’s Fables.

Others under Sed Maarib’s third dam include Australian Group 1 winner Polarisation and that one’s Australian stakes winning half-sibling Clearly.
