Tiz The Law Dominates G1 Travers For Fourth Grade I Victory

It was complete domination by Tiz The Law on Saturday in the Grade I Travers as he romped to his fourth consecutive victory and fourth Grade I win.

The future Coolmore America resident showed that the stretch to 1¼ miles was absolutely no issue straight from the start when breaking sharply. Galloping a few paths wide, Tiz The Law raced just behind Uncle Mo’s Grade II winner Uncle Chuck three paths from the rail. The winner looked like he was out for an easy gallop when he eased up to Uncle Chuck in the far turn with Manny Franco barely moving a muscle on top of his mount.

Sticking his head in front half-way around the far turn, by the stretch the race was over. Franco gave him a few taps at the top of the stretch then put it away and just enjoyed the ride as Tiz The Law romped him by an easy 5½ lengths over Uncle Mo’s Caracaro for trainer Barclay Tagg and Sackatoga Stables.

"He became part of my family, this horse. He's unbelievable and I've never been on a horse in my career like this one. I'm enjoying the moment,” Franco said. "He gave me chills. When I pressed the button, he just took off. He accelerated really hard. After that, I took a peek back and he was going away and I just saved horse.”

The winner of six of his seven starts, Tiz The Law’s resume includes four Grade I victories and a Grade III win, led by the Grade I Belmont Stakes and Saturday’s Travers.

Bred by Twin Creeks Farm, Tiz The Law is out of Grade II winner Tizfiz and a half-brother to Listed-placed Awestruck with his extended family including 1997 Horse of the Year Favorite Trick and Grade I winner Moonshine Memories.

The favorite heading to Churchill Downs for the Grade I Kentucky Derby next month, Tiz The Law will retire to Coolmore America at the end of his racing career.
