Beautifully Bred Goddess Adds Group Win To CV
Friday saw Goddess (3f Camelot - Cherry Hinton, by Green Desert) follow up on her maiden black-type success when taking the Group 3 Snow Fairy Fillies Stakes at the Curragh.
Group 2 placed over course and distance in July, she won the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes at Gowran Park earlier in the month. Ryan Moore settled the bay towards the back of the field, improving up the inside from three furlongs out and switched left to produce a serious challenge entering the final furlong. Running on between horses, she soon led and stayed on to beat stablemate Credenza (Galileo) by half a length.
Speaking after the race, Ryan Moore said, “Goddess won nicely at Gowran and she has improved again. Hopefully she can make her mark in a higher grade.”
Trained by Aidan O’Brien for Coolmore partners, Goddess was bred by Orpendale and Chelston out of the beautifully-bred black-type mare Cherry Hinton, who is a half-sister to the top-class Galileo and Sea The Stars, out of Urban Sea. Cherry Hinton has produced five performers, including Irish Oaks heroine Bracelet (Montjeu), Group 2 Rockfel Stakes winner Wading (Montjeu) and Grade 1 Belmont Oaks winner Athena (Camelot).
Goddess is from the second crop of top-class racehorse Camelot, who is now the sire of 12 Group winners, with three of those scoring at the highest level. The son of Montjeu stands at Coolmore Stud at a fee of €40,000.
