Camelot colt breaks maiden for O’Brien
Downdraft (3c Camelot-Cinnamon Rose, by Trempolino) added to the formidable list of exciting three-year-olds set to represent Camelot in 2018 when winning at Dundalk on Friday night.
Carrying the colours of rugby legend Ronan O’Gara, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt pushed clear in the final stages of the 14-runner seven-furlong maiden to win by a cosy length and a quarter.
The winning trainer’s brother Donnacha was in the saddle and he predicted that a step up in trip could see the Airlie Stud-bred Camelot colt shine even brighter.
“It was straightforward,” said the jockey. “I think he'll be better over further again. I think he'll step up in trip whatever he does, I'll leave that to Joseph but he's a nice horse."
