Denmark (Camelot) Impresses On Debut At Naas

Camelot Colt Emerges As Exciting Prospect At Naas

Denmark (2c Camelot - Board Meeting, by Anabaa) entered the 2023 Epsom Derby picture with an impressive debut win in Monday’s mile maiden at Naas.

Well-supported in the market, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt chased the leaders under Ryan Moore and made headway when asked two furlongs from home. The bay showed signs of inexperience when leading a furlong later, but ran on well to score by three and a quarter lengths.

“He's still a big baby but we're delighted with him,” O’Brien commented after the race. “He was very green but he's a lovely horse. He's a fine big fella. We'll go gently with him and give him a little bit of time, but we couldn't be happier with him.”

Denmark had clearly impressed at home, earning him entries in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes and Group 1 National Stakes. The son of Camelot is owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg, having been bought by MV Magnier and Mandore Agency as a yearling for €440,000. Bred by Dayton Investments, his siblings include Group 1 performer Big Blue (Galileo).
