Camelot Colt Gains Smart Maiden Win At Leopardstown
Real Madrid footballer Alvaro Odriozola celebrated his first winner in Ireland when the Joseph O’Brien-trained Gaheris (3c Camelot - Guavia, by Invincible Spirit) justified favouritism in the Manguard Plus Maiden at Leopardstown.
Beaten just a neck on his three-year-old return last month, the bay was reunited with Shane Cross in Thursday’s nine furlong contest and chased the leaders for much of the way. Pushed along approaching the two furlong marker, he ran on strongly to lead inside the final furlong, going on to score by a length and a quarter from Lord Luker (Footstepsinthesand).
Bred by Stiftung Gestuet Faehrhof, Gaheris is the first foal out of Stakes performer Guavia.
