Camelot Colt Is All Class At Leopardstown
Collins Street (3c Camelot - Uliana, by Darshaan) proved a class above his rivals when making an impressive debut at Leopardstown on Thursday.
The ‘winner’ of a barrier trial in June, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was sent off second favourite to transfer his talent to the racecourse proper in the nine furlong contest. Chasing the leaders under Shane Cross, he was pushed along from two furlongs out and ran on strongly between horses to lead a furlong later. Racing clear, he won by three and a half lengths, with another five and a half lengths back to the third.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Brendan Powell said, “Collins Street is a lovely horse. They went a good gallop and Shane thinks he could be exciting. He could do no more than win the way he did.”
Bred by Newstead Breeding, Collins Street is closely related to Group performers Take It Intern and Festival Princess. O’Brien and owner Lloyd Williams have together enjoyed great success with Camelot, most notably with Eyerefield Stakes victor Degraves and Irish Derby hero Latrobe.
