Camelot Filly Back In Front At Newmarket
Smart maiden winner Wild Goddess (2f Camelot - Grecian Light, by Shamardal) recorded her second success in Saturday’s Class 2 Jersey Lily Fillies’ Nursery at Newmarket.
The Charlie Appleby-trained bay finished a close fourth on debut before drawing four lengths clear at the July course over Saturday’s trip of seven furlongs. The highest-rated filly in the field raced prominently under William Buick and was pushed along to lead before the two furlong pole. Ridden inside the final furlong, she kept on to score by half a length, with another length and a half back to the favourite in third.
The race has a history of producing smart fillies, with recent winners including Group 3 winner Perfect News and Epsom Oaks second Mystery Angel. The latest winner was owned and bred by Godolphin.
