Camelot Filly Back To Best In Group 2 Feature
Pensee Du Jour (4f Camelot – Painter’s Pride, by Dansili) made all to record her third Stakes success in Monday’s Group 2 Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud.
The Andre Fabre-trained bay impressed when winning her first three starts last year, including Group 3 and Listed wins that came by a combined nine and a half lengths. She returned last month to finish a promising second in the Group 3 Prix Allez France and sent off favourite to go one better on Monday. Maxime Guyon employed a change in tactics and began to quicken with over two furlongs left to race. Ridden a furlong later, she kept on strongly to score by a length and a half, with another two lengths back to Melo Melo (Gleneagles) in third.
“She can win a Group 1 this year,” Guyon stated after the race. “She had run very well on her comeback and we wanted to let her go in her own rhythm today. She never gives up and is only ever moving forward.”
Representing owner/breeders the Wertheimer family, Pierre-Yves Bureau said, “She showed today that the decision to keep her in training at four was a good one. She has a nice turn of foot but she'll need to take another step forward to be competitive at Group 1 level. That is where her future is and she will now be aimed at the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud.”
