Camelot Filly Battles For Maiden Success
Margaret Dumont (3f Camelot - Sapphire Waters, by Six Sense) showed a winning attitude when getting off the mark on her second attempt at Ascot on Saturday.
The Mark Johnston-trained bay finished a promising third on debut last month and once again raced over a mile and a half at the weekend. Joe Fanning rode her to make the running, but was headed approaching the final furlong. Running on well under pressure, she battled back to regain the advantage close home and won by a head, as the front pair finished five lengths clear of the third.
Owned by Tactful Finance and J Barnett, Margaret Dumont was bred by Grangecon Holdings. The daughter of Camelot becomes the first winner out of her dam, a half-sister to talented stayer Rajik.
