Camelot Filly Races Into Classic Contention
Sunny Queen (3f Camelot – Suivi, by Darshaan) broke her maiden in spectacular style on Thursday, when running out a clear winner of the Listed Goddert Sybrecht-Erinnerungrennan at Hannover.
Third on debut two weeks prior, the Henk Grewe-trained filly was one of nine to line up for the Diana trial over ten furlongs. Andrasch Starke rode her towards the back of the field, waiting until the turn for home to make his move and his mount soon obliged, quickening strongly to lead. Racing clear, she won by eight and a half lengths.
Bred by Anahita Stables and owned by Stefan Hahne, Sunny Queen continues a fine run for Camelot, who as well as siring a number of smart maiden winners, also made history when siring the first Northern Hemisphere bred winner of an Australian Derby in the shape of Russian Camelot.
