Camelot in demand at Goffs

Camelot’s first-crop of yearlings, who made a big  splash at Arqana in August, continued to be in huge demand at the Goffs Orby Sale this week.

Leading the way was a €360,000 colt out of Healing Music (by Bering) bought by Hugo Merry on behalf of Jim and Fitri Hay.

“I’ve bought him for Dr Jim Hay. David Simcock was very keen on this horse and that is who will train him,” reported Merry.

Camelot was raised as a youngster at Highclere Stud in England and Harry Herbert, whose sister Lady Carolyn Warren runs the famous farm, was delighted to pick up one of his first crop.

Herbert paid €320,000 on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing for a filly out of the Galileo mare Effervesce offered from Norelands Stud.

“It’s a long sales season ahead and we’re concentrating on quality and we were delighted to get this filly. Obviously we know Camelot, as he lived at Highclere before going to the sales as a yearling and we’ve been very impressed with his yearlings so far. We’re chuffed to bits to get this one,” said Herbert.

Camelot’s yearlings averaged nearly €140,000 at the Goffs Orby Sale, making him the leading first-season sire by average.

Other lots made €240,000 (Meridian International), €240,000 (Charlie Gordon-Watson), €230,000 (M V Magnier), €170,000 (Kenji Ryotokuji), €110,000 (Dermot Weld) etc.
