Camelot Sires Impressive Maiden Treble
Camelot sired an impressive trio of maiden winners on Wednesday’s card at Gowran Park, with perhaps the most taking display coming from Mythical (2c Camelot - Inchmina, by Cape Cross) in the mile maiden.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt disputed for much of the way and was travelling the best of the field as they approached the two furlong pole. Ridden clear, he stayed on strongly to win by eight and a half lengths. Winning jockey Donnacha O’Brien commented after the race, “Mythical is a beautiful horse. He's probably a very good horse but he's still very raw.”
Bred by SAS Clear Light, Mythical was a €280,000 yearling purchase and is a half-brother to the twice Group 1 placed Johann Strauss (High Chaparral).
Even So (2f Camelot - Breeze Hill, by Danehill) was a similarly effortless winner of the opener, building on her promising debut third last month. Like Mythical, she led for much of the way and looked the likely winner two furlongs from home, from which she sauntered home to score by three and three quarters lengths under Colin Keane.
Ger Lyons, who trained the filly for Mrs John Magnier and Mrs Paul Shanahan, later commented that his charge would be a nice prospect for next year. She was bred by Lynch Bages out of Breeze Hill, a half-sister to the top-class Dr Devious and to the dam of Dancing Rain.
Paget Bloodstock’s homebred Istoria (3f Camelot - Brooklyn’s Storm by Storm Cat) proved best of the older maidens later in the afternoon for Joseph Murphy and Gary Carroll.
Sent off favourite, she tracked the leader, asserted over two furlongs out and was pushed out to win by a length and a half in comfortable fashion. A step up in class is now on the cards according to her assistant trainer, who said, “Black type will be the objective now, she has shown at home that it wouldn't be beyond her.”
Istoria is a full-sister to Group 3 winner Pollara (Camelot) and a half-sister to Group 2 performer Stormina, herself the dam of dual Group 1 winner Silasol.
Camelot commands €40,000 at Coolmore Stud.
