Camelot Sires Maiden Double

The Dermot Weld-trained Hazakiyra (3f Camelot - Hazarafa, by Daylami) stayed on well to take the mile and a half Fillies Maiden at Tramore on Saturday, where she completed the first leg of a double for her sire Camelot.

The Aga Khan homebred raced in mid-division for much of the way and produced a challenge in the straight, chasing down the leader approaching the final furlong, leading close home to deny the favourite Eria (Zoffany) by a neck. The first two home finished ten lengths clear of the third horse.

Speaking after the race, winning rider Conor Hoban said, “Hazakiyra enjoyed the trip and the ground. Her previous run at Clonmel was pretty good, she stuck at it well and galloped all the way to the line.”

Hazakiyra is a half-sister to dual Group 3 winner Shamardal, out of a Listed-winning half-sister to dual Derby hero Harzand.

Completing a double on the card for Camelot was the Edward O’Grady-trained Act Of God (4g Camelot - Adja, by Rock Of Gibraltar), a justified favourite of the mile and a half maiden.

Placed on multiple occasions in France for Andre Fabre, the four-year-old was bought for €105,000 last November and now runs in the colours of Brian Comer. The bay was given a hold-up ride by Rachael Blackmore, taking close order from over three furlongs out and led after the two furlong marker. Soon clear, he was pushed out to win by three and a quarter lengths.

Act Of God is a half-brother to pattern performer Amboseli and was bred by Dayton Investments out of a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner Angara and Group 2 winner Actrice (Danehill).

Camelot stands at Coolmore Stud for a fee of €40,000.
