Camelot Three-Year-Old Looks A Class Apart On Debut

Alexander James (3g Camelot - Plying, by Hard Spun) left his rivals for dead when running out a wide margin winner on debut on Monday.

The Iain Jardine-trained three-year-old faced ten rivals, two of them previous winners, in the mile maiden at Southwell and was ridden close to the pace by Jamie Gormley. Leading four furlongs from home, he went clear two furlongs later and ran on well to score by 13 lengths, leaving his rivals to fight for minor honours.

Owned by James Property Ltd, Alexander James was bred by Churchtown House Stud out of a winning half-sister to Kissing Lights, placed in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes and Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes.

Later that evening at Windsor, Sinjaari (3c Camelot - Heavenly Song, by Oratorio) added to his sire’s growing list of winners when taking the ten furlong maiden for William Haggas and owner Mohammed Jaber.

Sent off favourite for his close second last time out, he was ridden to track the leaders and was shaken up to lead over a furlong from home. Staying on strongly under Oisin Murphy, he drew clear to beat Global Heat by two and a half lengths.

Bought by Charlie Gordon-Watson as a yearling for 110,000gns, Sinjaari was bred by Dr T Purcell and Mr P Purcell and is a grandson of Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes heroine Lochangel, herself a half-sister to top sprinter Lochsong.
