Camelot’s Bluestocking Captures Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes
Bluestocking (4f Camelot – Emulous, by Dansili) followed up last month’s impressive Group 2 success to gain her maiden Group 1 in Saturday’s Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.
Trained by Ralph Beckett for owner/breeder Juddmonte Farms, the daughter of Camelot was sent off a short-priced favourite following her six length win in the Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York. Rossa Ryan had appeared confident before the race and was justified when running down rival Emily Upjohn inside the final furlong. The bay went on to beat the dual Group 1 winner by half a length, with another three lengths and three quarters back to Content (Galileo) in third.
“It was surreal,” Ryan said after the race. “I thought she’d win [before the race] – I was very confident of her doing so – but when Kieran kicked I thought it’s gone and it’s not coming back. I’m ecstatic. She’s deserving of this.”
“It’s a great day and I’m very pleased,” Beckett added. “Her next start is likely to be the Nassau Stakes.”
Bluestocking completed a Coolmore-sired clean-sweep of the card’s Group races, with Truly Enchanting (No Nay Never) victorious in the Group 2 Airlie Stud Stakes, while Jan Brueghel (Galileo) captured the Group 3 International Stakes.
