Alexandroupolis (Camelot) Makes A Winning Debut At Galway

Classy Camelot Colt Makes Perfect Start

Smart newcomer Alexandroupolis (2c Camelot - Jazz Cat, by Tamayuz) led home a 1-2-3 for Coolmore sires in Tuesday’s mile maiden at Galway.

Aidan O’Brien’s charge was positioned in mid-division by Wayne Lordan and made headway from two furlongs out. Switched right to challenge, he ran on well to lead inside the final furlong and was pushed out to score by a length and three quarters. Stablemate and fellow newcomer Espionage (Galileo) ran on into second, with just a neck back to the well-bred Simpson’s Paradox (Mastercraftsman) in third.

“Alexandroupolis is a lovely, straightforward colt,” Wayne Lordan said after the race. “He travelled good and quickened up well. He shows a bit of class at home.”

Bred by Mrs Fitri Hay, Alexandroupolis was bought by MV Magnier as a yearling for 240,000gns and is now owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Westerberg. The son of Camelot provides a well-timed update for his full-sister, who is catalogued in next month’s Tattersalls Book 2 Sale.
