Game Camelot Filly Comes Out On Top
There should be more to come from Riviera Queen (3f Camelot – Pakora, by Gentlewave) as she overcame the undulations of Tramore to gain a deserved maiden win on Saturday.
Placed on both of her previous starts in maidens, Jessica Harrington’s representative was sent off favourite for the fillies’ maiden over a mile and a half. Keithen Kennedy settled the grey in third and produced a challenge three furlongs from home, improving to lead before the final furlong. Strolling (Churchill) loomed up to challenge, but Riviera Queen dug deep to prevail by a neck, with the pair drawing seven lengths clear of the remainder.
“She battled it out well,” the winning rider commented. “She has a lovely big stride and is a gorgeous moving filly. A nicer track will bring out the best side of her.”
The Dan Kiely-owned Camelot filly was bought by Peter and Ross Doyle as a yearling from breeder Pier House Stud for €140,000.
