Group 2 Glory For Progressive Camelot Colt
Sammarco (3c Camelot - Saloon Sold, by Soldier Hollow) proved himself a leading contender for the Group 1 Deutsches Derby when winning the Classic’s premier trial, the Group 2 Union-Rennen at Cologne.
Successful on his sole two-year-old start, the Peter Schiergen-trained colt was narrowly denied on his three-year-old return in the Group 3 Bavarian Classic last month. Stepping up to a mile and three furlongs on Monday, he chased the leaders under Bauyrzhan Murzabayev and was pushed along from the three furlong pole. Ridden a furlong later, he chased down the favourite and asserted in the final strides, leading by a head on the line. The front pair drew six lengths clear of the field.
Owned and bred by Gestut Park Wiedingen, Sammarco becomes a 46th individual Stakes winner by Camelot.
