Gutsy Filly Becomes Third Group Winner By Saxon Warrior
Moon Ray (2f Saxon Warrior - Demeanor, by Giant’s Causeway) continued Saxon Warrior’s impressive start at stud when prevailing in a thrilling finish to Saturday’s Group 3 Prix Miesque at Chantilly.
The Nicholas Clement-trained filly won her second start at the track last month and went on to finish second in a Listed race next time out, with the winner and third re-opposing on Saturday. Positioned in midfield by Stephane Pasquier, she was asked to challenge a furlong and a half from home and joined the leader 110 yards out. Battling neck and neck to the line, Moon Ray led in the shadow of the post.
Clement later revealed that Moon Ray would reappear in a Classic trial in the Spring, before being aimed at the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches. Owned by RT Racing Stable, the daughter of Saxon Warrior was bred by Team Hogdala AB and SMS Racing AB out of the Listed-winning Giant’s Causeway mare Demeanour.
Moon Ray becomes Saxon Warrior’s third Group winner, with the son of Deep Impact also responsible for another three Group performers, including Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac runner-up Gan Teorain.
