Saxon Warrior Colt Draws Clear To Maiden Victory
The well-regarded Londoner (2c Saxon Warrior - Gilt Edge Girl, by Monsieur Bond) proved a class above his rivals in Friday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.
A promising fourth over the same trip on debut, the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was sent off favourite on his second start under Seamie Heffernan. Racing in touch, he was ridden from two furlongs out and led soon after. Pushed clear, he kept on well to score by four lengths from stablemate Cape Bridgewater (Australia).
“Seamus was very happy with him,” Ballydoyle’s representative Chris Armstrong said after the race. “He came on a lot from his first run and when Seamus asked him to go about the business he quickened away nicely. He has a lovely attitude and is a horse to look forward to next year. He is by the right sire, Saxon Warrior, who is having winners every day.”
The son of Saxon Warrior had evidently impressed at home, as he holds entries in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Epsom Derby. A €270,000 yearling purchase, Londoner is owned by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Westerberg. The bay was bred by Blue Diamond Stud and the Irish National Stud, having been bought in utero for €200,000.
