Saxon Warrior Rewards Pinhookers At Tattersalls
Saxon Warrior’s promising start at stud has fuelled demand for his second crop of yearlings, with the son of Deep Impact responsible for a quintet of six-figure sales at Tattersalls Book 2.
Top billing went to Redpender Stud’s Saxon Warrior colt out of Alice Liddel, which was knocked down to Highclere Agency for 320,000gns. It represented an impressive return on the colt’s foal price of €72,000, which itself was a fine profit on Saxon Warrior’s 2020 fee of €27,500.
Glenvale Stud were also well-rewarded at Book 2, when their Saxon Warrior colt sold to Roger Varian for 300,000gns. Bought for €60,000 in February, the bay is a grandson of dual Group 3 winner and Group 1 performer Gagnoa (Sadler’s Wells).
After signing the docket, Varian said, “I’m really pleased as I loved the horse. I like the stallion too, he’s just getting going. We have three, including a nice colt who was second on debut and we have a couple of fillies coming through. I’ve been keeping an eye on his stock and bought a filly by him last week and I’m pleased to secure this colt.”
Varian’s purchase last week was a Saxon Warrior filly from Barouche Stud, for whom he went to 350,000gns. Saxon Warrior’s other six-figure sale at Book 1 was Al Shira’aa Racing’s 450,000gns purchase of Nicky Hartery’s half-sister to Going Global and Mitbaahy.
