Getaway Mare Impresses New Connections

Smart Getaway (7m Getaway - Legendsofthefall, by Arctic Lord) quickly rewarded new connections when running out an impressive winner of Thursday’s maiden hurdle at Southwell.

Bought by Olly Murphy for M Lyons and the Jacques Law partnership in May, she had previously shown promise in a bumper and on her only start over hurdles for Dominic French Davies.

Sent off co-favourite as a result under champion jockey Richard Johnson, she raced towards the back of the field for much of the two and a half mile race and improved her position from four out. Leading at the second last, she was ridden out to score by seven lengths, as her fellow market leader took second.

Smart Getaway was bred by Minch Bloodstock and AV Bloodstock out of a winning half-sister to black-type hurdler Craven.
