Getaway Mare Impresses With Maiden Hurdle Victory
Friday saw Getaway Katie (6m Getaway - Be My Katie, by Be My Native) run out an impressive winner of the Mares Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe.
Charles Clarke’s homebred mare finished fifth in a bumper last month after returning from a long break and was sent off favourite on her second start for Willie Mullins. Racing over two miles and two furlongs, she chased the leaders for much of the way under Paul Townend and began to improve her position from the fourth last.
Moving into second two from home, she was travelling well when taking the lead soon after and went clear approaching the final flight. Without much encouragement, she extended her advantage to seven lengths on the line.
Townend commented after the race, “Things worked out for her today. The ground was lovely and they went a gallop, which helped us. She jumped brilliant, she has the experience, and kept going well. She was fit and ready after her run at Killarney.”
