The Big Breakaway (Getaway) Sells At The Goffs Punchestown Sale

Son Of Getaway Sets Record Price at Punchestown Sale

The Big Breakaway (4g Getaway - Princess Mairead, by Blueprint) set a new record price for the Goffs Punchestown Sale when selling to Ross Doyle and Colin Tizzard for €360,000 on Thursday evening.

The Monbeg Stables-offered four-year-old came with a lofty reputation, with many impressed with the nature of his debut victory at Quakerstown. Sent off favourite for Donnchadh Doyle, he was ridden in mid-division and improved to lead after the third last. Drawing clear, he recorded a winning margin of 10 lengths.

Successful buyer Ross Doyle commented on his pricey purchase, “He’s a lovely horse from a proper staying family and he produced a very nice performance to win his point first time out. He’s a very good mover and a fine horse who I would say would have been a standout in any sale.”

Another son of Grange Stud sire Getaway to reach six-figures was the Richard Black-trained Barbados Buck’s (4g Getaway - Buck’s Blue, by Epervier Blue), who sold to Tom Malone for €210,000. He, too, made an eye catching debut, though in defeat, when finishing second in a competitive four-year-old maiden at Dromahane. Bred out of a half-sister to Big Buck’s, the bay will now be trained by Paul Nicholls for the Stewart family.

Daughters of Getaway were also in demand, with Rathmore Stud going to €155,000 for Southern Girl (5m Getaway - She’s Got To Go, by Glacial Storm), winner of a Quakerstown maiden last month. Offered by handler Donal Hassett, she also appealed on pedigree, being a full-sister to Listed winner Jarveys Plate.

Dual Group 1 winner Getaway commands a fee of €7,500 at Grange Stud this season.
