The Getaway Star Outshines Rivals On Debut

The Getaway Star (4f Getaway - Tucacas, by Highest Honor) emerged as a very exciting prospect when casting her older rivals aside in Tuesday’s mares’ bumper at Fairyhouse.

Strong market support came for the sole four-year-old in the field and the grey did not disappoint, improving to lead over two furlongs from home, soon going clear under Eoin O’Brien. The Declan Queally-trained mare extended her advantage to eight and a half lengths on the line, leaving the favourite to take second, with another 12 lengths back to the third horse.

The thrilled winning owner Michael O’Callaghan commented after the race, “She's a real special mare and we thought an awful lot of her. It was her first day out today and we were hoping for a big run. She did the business and she looks real decent. We had no racecourse gallop with her and he said she'd improve a stone for it.”

The Getaway Star was bred by John Harvey out of the black-type hurdler Tucacas, herself a half-sister to Grade 1 performer Blingless.
