The Yellow Clay (Yeats) Wins His Hurdle Debut At Down Royal

Exciting Son Of Yeats Impresses On Hurdle Bow

Punchestown Champion Bumper second The Yellow Clay (5g Yeats – Winning Indian, by Indian Danehill) made an impressive start over hurdles, as he drew nine lengths clear in Friday’s maiden hurdle at Down Royal.

The Gordon Elliott-trained bay was sent off a short-priced favourite on his first start over two miles, six furlongs and 110 yards, and raced prominently throughout under Sam Ewing. Clear before the penultimate flight, he went on to win by nine lengths with ease.

“Sam [Ewing] said he never came out of a hack,” the winning trainer reported. Elliott mentioned the Grade 3 Monksfield Novice Hurdle at Navan in two weeks’ time as a possible target for the Bective Stud homebred.
