Lashara Leads Home Coolmore-Sired Exacta
American Pharoah’s Lashara (3f American Pharaoh x Marbre Rose, by Smart Strike) led home a 1-2 finish for Coolmore sires on Saturday when breaking her maiden at Gulfstream Park.
Mo Town’s full sister Champagne Lady led from the start in the one-mile turf maiden with Lashara splitting the field in midpack as the favorite. As the field raced into the far turn, Lashara started working her way toward the lead and was just a few lengths behind Champagne Lady as they turned into the stretch.
Uncle Mo’s Champagne Lady put up a fight as Lashara pulled up beside her but in the end Lashara was able to win by three quarters of a length for trainer Mark Casse with Champagne Lady in second and American Pharoah’s Egyptian Lady a close fourth.
Breaking her maiden in her second career start, Lashara is owned by Cindy Hutson and Robert Masterson and was purchased from the Arqana Deauville August Yearling Sale for €850,000 in 2018.
A Group III winner herself, Lashara is a half-sister to Listed winners Aviatress and Gidu. The trio is out of a half-sister to Grade I winner and producer Zoftig, the dam of Group I duo Zo Impressive and Zaftig.
Last year’s Champion Freshman Sire, American Pharoah is the sire of 36 winners including six stakes winners and 15 stakes horses.
