Ascot Aim For Regally Bred Gleneagles Colt

Glen Savage (3c Gleneagles - Rocksavage, by Fastnet Rock) showcased an admirable attitude and considerable class when making a winning debut at Newbury on Sunday.

Trained by John and Thady Gosden, Lady Bamford’s homebred colt faced nine rivals in the eleven furlong maiden and was ridden to chase the leaders by Frankie Dettori. Disputing as they approached the two furlong marker, he was ridden over a furlong from home and kept on well to deny Title (Camelot) in the shadow of the post. The pair drew six lengths clear of the field.

John Gosden later revealed he has high expectations for the winner, saying, “He showed a great attitude and has done nothing but be honest and please us. He's from the family of Nathaniel and they stay well so he might be a horse for the Vase at Royal Ascot.”

From the second crop of champion three-year-old Gleneagles, Glen Savage is the first foal out of Rocksavage (Fastnet Rock), herself a half-sister to Group 1 winners Nathaniel (Galileo), Great Heavens (Galileo) and Playful Act (Sadler’s Wells).
