Castanets (Gleneagles) Wins Her Maiden At Killarney

Game Gleneagles Filly Gains Deserved Maiden Win

Castanets (3f Gleneagles – Like A Dame, by Danehill) dug deep to gain a deserved maiden victory at Killarney on Monday afternoon.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly was sent off favourite for the mile maiden, having finished in the first four on all of her previous starts. The bay raced prominently throughout under Dylan Browne McMonagle and was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong. Victoria Kesia delivered a strong challenge and the pair rallied to the line, where Castanets prevailed by a neck.

“She was very tough,” the winning rider confirmed. “She has been running very consistently and handles this ground. I think this was a nice trip for her on testing conditions because she probably does stay 1m2f well.”

The daughter of Gleneagles was bred by Paget Bloodstock, who races her with Mrs T Gaffney and Mrs B Murphy.
