Australia Colt Justifies Group 1 Entries With Impressive Win
The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Alessandro (3c Australia - Absolutly Me, by Anabaa Blue) shaped like an exciting prospect when running out a four length winner of Saturday’s ten furlong maiden at Cagnes-sur-Mer.
A promising second over course and distance last month, the bay broke smartly under Perrine Cheyer and was travelling the best of the field as they turned for home. Asserting with minimal effort at the two furlong marker, he was pushed out to the line as his rivals fought out the placings.
Alessandro had presumably impressed at home, given that he holds entries in the Prix du Jockey Club and Grand Prix de Paris. The son of Australia is owned by Ecurie des Charmes and Serge Stempniak, having been purchased by his trainer as a yearling for €80,000. Bred by Mrs Waltraut Spanner, he is a half-brother to Stakes performer Apollo Flight (Rock Of Gibraltar).
