Cercene (Australia) Impresses At Naas

Australia Filly Wins Maiden In Impressive Fashion

Cercene (2f Australia – Tsierschen, by Acclamation) shaped like a future Stakes filly when running out an impressive winner at Naas on Thursday.

The Joseph Murphy-trained filly finished strongly to take third on debut in July and remained over seven furlongs on her second start. The chesnut settled in midfield under Gary Carroll and began to make headway from over two furlongs out. She ran on well when ridden approaching the final furlong and soon led, going on to beat the favourite by two and quarter lengths.

“We think she's a very good filly,” said assistant trainer Joe Murphy junior. “The Park Stakes might come a bit soon for her, but she is in the EBF Final here in the autumn, but she might be finished for this year.”

Bred by China Horse Club, Cercene is owned by Shane Stafford, JC Fleming and Crampscastle Bloodstock. She is bred on the same cross as Group 1 winner Broome (Australia) and multiple Group winner Point Lonsdale (Australia).
