Bangkok Back In Front In Easter Cup
Bangkok (5h Australia - Tanaghum, by Darshaan) recorded his second notable success of the year when capturing the valuable Easter Cup at Lingfield’s All-Weather Finals meeting.
The Andrew Balding-trained bay landed back-to-back runnings of the Winter Derby Trial in February and was sent off favourite to gain his third course and distance win. Tracking the leaders under Silvestre de Sousa, he switched right approaching the three furlong pole and made good headway to lead inside the final furlong, running on to deny Palavecino by a neck.
“It's great and I'm thrilled for the horse,” the winning trainer said after the race, while De Sousa commented, “Bangkok is a classy type and he loves it around here. That will give him a bit of confidence for the turf season going forward.”
A Group 3 winner as a three-year-old, Bangkok has earned over £500,000 for owners King Power Racing. The son of Australia was bred by Barronstown Stud out of Stakes performer Tanaghum, who has a two-year-old filly by Churchill.
